Thank you for coming out to the pizza party glad the kids had a blast :-)
The season was fun and sadly interrupted by lots of snow but they still learned a lot and hopefully will want to continue wrestling in the future.

Well mother nature isn't a wrestling fan :-( We will miss again tonight and wrap up Thursday with our annual pizza party. We also will have open mats so please wear your gear.
If it were up to coach Craig and I we would just have practice on another night, although we are at the mercy of WH and the facilities department who were nice enough to allow us to use the school on Tues and Thursdays. This is a reason we are considering moving our program to the Dungeon next Fall where the mats are open six days a week. Those that attended last week were worked hard but I am sure learned a lot. Coach Russ Lindsey a WH grad from the original program in the 1970's has a great facility and a great method.
Few notes: Sectionals were last weekend so sadly we missed it.
Pembroke year end is Feb 17th and we can discuss Thursday.
See you all for some Pizza !

I guess we can't catch a break with mother nature this year. We will be back in the swing of things on Thursday 02/05 although practice will be held at The Dungeon located 285 Circuit Street in Hanover Ma ( Hanson town line ) please arrive at 5:45 head in and gear up. I hope to see all our kids..
Russ Lindsey from the Dungeon will be running practice and the WH coaches will assist. We will be meeting with Russ after the season to see if we can work some things out for next season.
Next week is our last week of the season with practice at WH on Tuesday and then finishing up on the 12th with Pizza and open mats.

I first want to start off by saying how proud I am of all our kids who participated in the Hanover Youth Tourney. We had a blast with many 1st through 4th place finishes. The kids all wrestled hard !!!!
Also a big thanks to the parent volunteers Sunday and specifically to Coach Craig for his dedication to the program.
Schedule:
This week we are back in the cafeteria for practice.
This Sunday is the Duxbury tourney similar to Hanover. I have to fill out the registration cards prior so coach Craig and I can safely bracket the day of so please if attending email me again your your child's full name, accurate weight, grade, experience / year wrestling. Next week....
Tuesday 1/27 we plan on taking a field trip to the Dungeon Wrestling Club 285 Circuit Street in Hanover right on the Hanson town line. This is a great program that runs year round and one we may be more involved with in the future. I will have more details on this.
Wed 1/28 we have an optional practice in Pembroke at 6:00 PM I will have exact address soon. This also isn't very far so I would LOVE a big turnout to return the favor to them coming to our school a few weeks ago.

We had another great practice yesterday the kids for the most part are picking things up. It's a lot to learn and with short attention spans it can be a challenge as you all witness :-)
Just a reminder please let me know if anything suspect that appears to be ring worm shows up on your child. Common spots are the arms and necks and legs. This is not a worm it's just bacterial and can be treated easily but is very contagious.
Hanover
Those wrestling Sunday K-4 are scheduled to wrestle from 8-11AM. Each child will wrestle a total of three 1-1-1 matches.
5-8th grade are scheduled to wrestle from 12-3:30.
1st - 3rd place trophy 4th place medal.
K-4 please arrive at 7:15 am gear up and look for your coaches and teammates for warm up.
5-8th please arrive no later than 11:00 AM or earlier to cheer on your younger teammates.
Remember to bring water, Gatorade and snacks. They do have concessions also.
Remember headgear !
Next week is a normal week of practice in the gym.
Sunday 1/25 is the Duxbury Tourney similar to Hanover although a bit less organized with day of registration. If you are interested in attending this one please send me an email details will follow.
Just FYI Wed 1/28 we are scheduled to visit Pembroke having a practice similar to what we hosted. I would love a great showing for this is possible.
Parents Jan 31st 2:30 Damien's pub in Hanson will be the annual meat raffle for WH wrestling program. This is for adults only if interested just show up with the Panther Wrestling family.

I am very pleased with the last two practices and happy to now get some momentum after the lengthy holidays. Tuesday our friends in Pembroke came in having a fun with some new kids. Thursday we really focused on hand and head control with a great showing from our dedicated volunteer dads. I hope this continues.
Tuesday and Thursday we have normal practice and we will be focusing on the cradle another pinning move. Wednesday we have an optional at CBC in Raynham. I only have four or five kids so far attending so if you are still interested please speak up Tuesday. We will be meeting in the front of the school at 5:00 PM.
Next Sunday is the Hanover Tourney and if you haven't signed up and plan on doing so please do before the 15th and send me an email so I can add to our list. Not to jinx us but if the Pats get past the Ravens the game will be later in the day, and the kids will be long done.

Tomorrow night do your best to show up at 5:45 having your children gearing up to be on the mats at 6:00 PM sharp. We have our cross town friends Pembroke coming in for practice and shark bait. They will be bringing 40 plus kids so it will be a bit loud and crazy. This will be no different than a regular practice just some new faces and blue and gray shirts to wrestle with.
Thursday 1/8 is a normal practice.
Tuesday 1/13 normal practice
Wednesday 1/14 we have an "optional" practice scrimmage at CBC in Raynham at the dog tracks. This starts at 5:45 so coach Craig and I are thinking we take a few cars and carpool. I can take six kids Craig can take eight so if any other parents have a caravan that would be great. We can meet at 5:00 PM leave from WH and plan on being back by 8:00 PM. I will need numbers on this so please email me so I have an idea.
Lastly if you want to sign your son or daughter up for Hanover Tourney 1/18 I would do so soon. We have competed in this before and it's well run. It's a real bracketed tourney with real 1-1-1 matches. It is although intense but fun and safe. They do there best to keep the same skill level in the same bracket but this isn't a perfect science as we have learned over the last few years. After you click the link below it will say timed out so enter the home page again and register. Look for D-1 D-2 etc click grade and then under criteria I would pick either first year and more than two years.
Questions just email me.

The first week is over and I am proud of our kids and grateful for our coaches. A big thanks to coach Craig and Joel and the new ones that have stepped up helping out for the love of the sport. I am also excited that coach Gary has continued stick around after the high school practice to share his vast knowledge. Look for other WH alum to pop in from time to time to help out.
Last week we worked on our stance, penetration, then explained how both of these set up the single and double legs. This week we will be working on bottom wrestling position, breakdowns, and escapes. Then on to pinning combinations. The kids have so much energy so we will be continuing to have live shark bait and pride.
Few notes.
Please always remember water it vital.
Head gear not mandatory for practice but shoes are so please make sure you get you child a pair. Sneakers are not allowed on the mat.
Parents remember cleanliness is vital making sure the kids have trimmed nails and ALWAYS bath or shower as soon as the get home.
This Saturday at 5:00 PM is a Take Down Tourney at Pembroke High School run by Brian Conrad from CBC Wrestling club. We normally attend this although it usually isn't in the evening, so I know that Coach Craig and I won't be able to attend. If anyone wants to attend you will have to supervise your child so please email me and I will send you the info. We will have plenty of scrimmages and live wrestling come January so if we this it's ok.
We should have our t-shirts in this week the kids will be excited.
Next week I am going to be out of town on business so coach Craig and Gary will be running the ship. I still can be reached by email though with questions and concerns.
Please come and support the High School Team the season begins this Saturday at Oliver Ames and the first home meet is Wed 12/17 against Duxbury.
Christmas week and New Years week obviously there will be no Thursday practices but I am planning on having practice Tuesdays hopefully in the gymnasium. More info to come.
Those that have Comcast please keep an eye out for a new episode of "Mat time with Mark" I started hosting a sit down talk show last year to help bring some fun and exposure to WH Wrestling. This weeks guests are third year wresters Jason (JJ) Raposa and my son Max Chauppetta. If you child would like to be a guest send me an email and I will do my best to have them on.
Past shows can be found on the AMAZING web site designed and maintained by WH Alum Matt Quimby. Check it out weekly for constant updates www.whwrestling.com

Hope you all had a great Thanksgiving.
It's that time again for the first night of our W-H Youth wrestling program Tuesday December 2nd 2014. Practices will be every Tuesday and Thursday from 6:00 PM - 7:30 PM through February of 2015.
Please arrive at 5:50 PM and have your child put on their wrestling shoes and headgear. PLEASE KEEP IN MIND that the High School Kids are finishing up practice so they MUST stay put until instructed to take the mat.
Parents you are encouraged to stay and watch practice at the assigned tables but I CAN"T STRESS HOW IMPORTANT it is that we ARE NOT A DAY CARE so if you bring your other children they MUST sit still and be quite. NO running around will be tolerated.
We have about 55 kids participating from K - 8th grade many who have short attention spans so getting them to focus is a priority :-) This also our first year merging all the kids so we plan on splitting the mats with the smaller kids being separated from the bigger kids to avoid injury. We run a tight ship and will emphasizing skill, development, and most importantly FUN !
We will teach technique - sportsmanship and will incorporate live wrestling throughout practice.
We will be scheduling dual tournaments during the season and we will also have year end tourneys.
Remember that what your child puts in is what he will get out of this program.
Remember to check the amazing web site that Alum Matt Quimby has put together www.whwrestling.com for continued updates and bios on all the coaches. If you have any question about us please just pull us aside we have an open door policy.
Lastly this is all about fun so we will see you all Tuesday.
