Hi All,
I hope everyone is enjoying the spring sports without the spring weather. Grades 1-4 wrestling Coach Mark Chaupetta needs our help. Mark has organized a charity event whose proceeds will go to the Mass Hospital School Adaptive Sports & Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, a 5013C Non-Profit Organization. This is a fun night for a great cause and I hope to see you there and to catch up. see the link below for details and ticket purchases. Spread the word!

Hi Parents and Wrestlers,
I hope everyone is enjoying their school vacation. I’m sad to say that the wrestling season has officially ended for us. I looked into it, but it's just not feasible right now to have another practice with the coordination and the timing. First of all let me say thank you to all the kids who came and worked hard and learned the sport of wrestling. Secondly, special thanks to the parents who got them there when it wasn’t snowing and boy did it snow this winter! It’s a tough sport and even tougher to watch your kids participate in, but the rewards of seeing them succeed make it worthwhile. A special thanks to the grades 5-8 Assistant Coaches Bob Guiliani, Chris Guiliani, Joel McInnis, and Dave Deminico. We have thoroughly enjoyed coaching your children and hope you bring them back next year! The high school is planning a summer wrestling camp in July so keep an eye out for an email in late spring on that.
Thank you,
Coaches Steve Wright and Joe Baker

Good Morning,
I have only heard back from a few people about tomorrow's tournament. Please let me know whether you plan on attending or not as I need to know how many coaches we should bring. Coaches are volunteering their time and taking time off from work so if we don't need them all, I want to let them know.
Thank you,
W-H Coaches
Details From Pembroke below.
We are going to have Kap clerk the tourney this year. Date is Tuesday the 18th. Registration will be from 7:30am until 8:15am, we will start as soon as brackets are ready. My thought was to do all 5 man round robin. This way they all get 4 matches. Medals for top 4 and Certs for 5th. EMT will be on site, full concessions. No weigh in, please be accurate with your wrestlers weight. $10 entrance fee.

Good Afternoon,
Although the school has not officially called off evening activities, we coaches have talked it over and based on weather and limited attendance we are cancelling practice. I will look at a date for next week. I know the kids are looking forward to pizza and games so I will let you know when I have a date.

Hi All,
Well it went by fast and all the kids have done an excellent job improving their skills and competing. Our last practice is tomorrow night at W-H and we will have pizza and play some games about half way through (Better not Snow). Parents we will have enough pizza for all so makes sure you grab some. With the exception of a few kids competing at sectionals, our last competition will be Tuesday 2/18 for the league tournament in Pembroke. I have pasted what I have for details below, so please email to confirm if you are coming. This tournament will be based on weight and experience and the coaches will work with tourney organizers to make up the brackets. I think worst case scenario is we are out of there by 1:00pm. I see in his notes that they are going to use Kap electronic wrestling to organize the matches so I anticipate finishing earlier. Details are below. Once again confirm by email if you are coming.
Thanks

Good Afternoon,
I just wanted to say thanks to all the wrestlers and coaches for making last nights scrimmage a success. I received some very positive feedback from the Walpole Coaches and parents. Don't forget to pick up a copy of the Whitman-Hanson Express newspaper. They did a nice article on our youth wrestling on pages 1 and 2 followed by some excellent pictures on page 10.
Thanks,
W-H Coaches

Good Afternoon,
Tomorrow night’s scrimmage at the high school has been moved to the gym due to a scheduling conflict with the cafe. There is a basketball game going on at one end so please enter the gym the following way. When going down the hall, instead of turning right to go down to the café please proceed straight and enter the gym through the last door on the left. Please arrive around 5:45 so we can get started right at 6:00. Please note that they will have the gym sectioned off with the curtains that extend down from the ceiling and we have been asked not to use whistles and to keep it somewhat down so we don’t affect the BB game. We will finish up by 7:30. Let me know if you plan on attending if you haven’t already done so.
FYI – Please remember to wear your shirts and bring your medals or trophies form the Hanover tournament last week.

Good Morning,
The schedule this week is a little different. We will practice normal on Tuesday 1/21 and the younger group will be joining us. We will then host a scrimmage on Friday 1/24 where Hanover will come to us. There will be no practice on Thursday 1/23 due to the high school team having a home meet. Please email me by tomorrow if you plan on attending Fridays scrimmage. Hanover will provide us with some very good competition and it’s at home so we want a good turnout. I thought yesterday's Hanover tournament went well and we are proud of the way our team competed. For some of you that was your first experience with a tournament, so congrats and now you know what to expect. As coaches, we are now able to take what we saw and provide feedback as well as structure practice to address those areas. If you placed 1st through 4th at the tournament, please bring your medal or trophy with you on Friday and wear your shirt so we can get some pictures for the website.
Thank you,

Good Morning,
First of all, I want to say great job by everyone who attended last night’s scrimmage in Pembroke. That format has it’s pros and cons. The good news is the next three scrimmages will be hosted at our school and we will stick to the format of combined practice followed by some fun stuff. They should last about 1 ½ hours and it will only be us and one other town on each of those nights. Today is the last day to sign up for the Hanover tournament so please do so if you haven’t yet. Here is the flyer here and based on your grade, you need to be there at certain time. Grades k-4 need to check in by 7:45 AM. Grades 5-8 can check in between 7:45 and 10:15 AM. Please read the flyer. This tournament should go quickly as the brackets will be made up ahead of time. Email me with any questions or concerns.

Good Morning and hope you all enjoyed the Pats Win. We have one normal practice this week on Tuesday 1/14 at the high school and a scrimmage on Thursday 1/16 at Pembroke High. Please email me by tomorrow to let me know if you can make it on Thursday for the scrimmage. Format will be a little different where we will group them by age, weight and experience into round robin brackets. This is similar to last year for returning wrestlers. It will be fun and Pembroke does a good job with this. Meet is at Pembroke high school (80 Learning Lane) and we can not get into gym until 6pm. They will have at least 5 tables. Please have wrestlers show up on time. Very difficult to add kids in after we have separated them in groups.
Thanks

Good Morning,
More rare than the polar vortex is me screwing up the schedule! That being said, that's what I did when I booked us to host Hanover on the same night the high school has a home meet. We are moving the scrimmage from Thursday 1/23/14 to Friday 1/24. Hanover will come to us and we will scrimmage utilizing the younger age groups practice time slot. They will also be participating in the scrimmage. Hopefully this gives everyone enough time to make adjustments. There will be no practice on Thursday 1/23 due to the high school meet. I encourage all of you to go and support the High school team that night as there are not many home meets. The W-H website has also been updated to reflect the changes. Email or call me with any questions. See you Tuesday 1/14 for practice.
P.S. Don't forget to register on line for the Hanover Tournament. This takes place on Sunday 1/19/14 and the link to register is below

Just a reminder to the wrestlers attending tonight's scrimmage at the Dungeon in Hanover, MA.
- Please arrive between 5:30 and 5:45 p.m. as we want to get started on time.
- Wear your t-shirts and wrestling shoes and bring headgear if you have them.
- The format will be warm ups, sharkbait groups followed by games. We should be finished by 7:30 p.m.
- I have been told the Dungeon will have pizza for sale for anyone who is interested. Coach input here- I wouldn't recommend the wrestlers chow down a lot of pizza before wrestling. Spectators eat as much as you want.
- There will be only us, Hingham and maybe some dungeon kids. There was talk originally of Plymouth joining in, but that is not happening now.
- This should be fun so tell your kids to relax, enjoy and practice what they have learned.
See you tonight

Good Morning and I look forward to seeing everyone tomorrow night at practice. I received additional information on the January 19th Hanover tournament over the weekend (see below). For those of you who originally registered for the December cancelled takedown tournament, you still need to register for this tournament! There is some addition information below for those of you who paid a $5 registration fee back in December. Know that all the registration needs to be done on line. Hanover runs a good tournament and it’s close so lets’ get as many of you there as possible. Call or email me with any questions.

Hi Everyone,
As many of you know, Hanover is hosting an invitational tournament on January 19th. Here is a flyer with details and how to register. We will have 2 sessions K-4 and 5-8 and we are limiting the number of wrestlers per session to 200 (each session). This typically fills up pretty fast and I would like to have as much representation from the south as possible. Please have your parents sign up ASAP so we can keep this a mainly local event…I will be forced to open up registration to the general public if we can’t fill it locally. All registration will be done online, no exceptions. Some of your parents have asked to apply the $5 that they already paid for the canceled take down tournament toward this tournament, so when they go to register, just ask them to close the browser down when it asks them to pay and I will work out the balance with them directly.
Please note that there will be no official weigh in. We are using the Honor System, but if another coach questions the weight of one of your wrestlers and they are +5lbs over the registered weight, they will be disqualified from the tournament. We are doing this to so that there is as little down time as possible after the wrestlers arrive at the facility…thanks for your understanding.
Here is the link for the registration, but it can also be found on the flyer: https://leagueathletics.com/Page.asp?n=65056&org=hyaa.net
Please let me know if you have any questions, but please try to sign up asap. Please forward this note on to anyone that you wrestle with and would like to invite.
Thanks,
Peter Frank, Hanover Youth Wrestling

Good Morning and hope you all fared well with the snow. Our scrimmage next Wednesday 1/8 is still against Hingham, but has been moved to the Dungeon Wrestling Club (285 Circuit St, Hanover, MA) to allow for more space. This will also make it a much shorter ride for us so it's a win-win. The doors will open at 5:30 p.m. , wrestling will begin at 6:00 p.m. and conclude at 7:30. There is also a chance that another team will join so it would be three teams. The format will be some warm ups, shark bait wrestling with the other schools and some games. We do have practice on Tuesday 1/7 at W-H high school at normal time so it would be good to get some wrestling in before Wednesday. I still need to hear back from some people on who is coming Wednesday, so if you haven't gotten back to me please do. Email me with any questions. The information and location has also been changed on our website and there is a link for directions to the Dungeon if you need it. It's in an industrial park and the building is down the very back.
Thanks

Thanks

Happy New Year to you all!
It looks like Mother Nature does not want to let us back on the mat just yet. I'm going to cancel practice for tomorrow night Thursday 1/2 due to the coming snow storm. Next week we have 2 practices on Tuesday and Thursday and a scrimmage in Hingham on Wednesday 1/8. I need a head count over the weekend as to who is planning to be at the Hingham scrimmage on Wednesday. Hingham does a good job of running these and there will be kids there for us to match up against. Please email me back to let me know if your coming.
Thank you,
Coach Wright & Baker

Good Morning and I hope you had a nice holiday. It has come to my attention that some of you may have not been getting all of my e mails through my Comcast account. Moving forward, you can email me at [email protected]. With New Years Eve being on Tuesday, we will not have practice that night. We will have normal practice on Thursday 1/2 at 6:00 pm. The younger wrestlers, grades 1-4 practice on Monday 12/30 at 6:00 pm and they have invited us to join them. This is a good opportunity to get some additional mat time in. Myself and coach Baker will be there. Please see the email update below from Friday, December 20th, 2013 that outlines the upcoming competition schedule. Also, the t-shirts have been ordered and are due to be ready for practice on Tuesday 1/7.
Thanks,

Good Morning Parents and Wrestlers,
Last night was a good practice although our numbers were very light! These early season practices are important especially for new wrestlers, so I hope to see more of you. We covered a lot of information and focused on our wrestling from both top and bottom position. I encourage you to go to the W-H wrestling website and go to the archives under the youth wrestling tab to review some videos from last year that can help you with concepts. We normally don’t practice over vacation, but the W-H grades 1-4 group has secured mat time on Monday Dec 23rd and Friday Dec 27th from 6:00-7:30 P.M. and we have been invited to join them. I will be there so it would be good to have some wrestlers from our group there to get some practices in before our competition schedule kicks off on January 8th We still have much more to do. After next week we don’t any mat time for 5- 8th graders until our regular practices resume on Thursday January 2nd. I have listed the competition schedule below. It is really important that we have high participation during these scrimmages. Other towns, as do we, count on there being enough wrestlers there to ensure everyone gets to wrestle and have fun. It doesn’t look good if we only show up with ½ of our team. There is a league website that is up although not totally complete and the schedule below is also on that website. On their site it has the times listed as 6:00 to 9:00 P.M. for scrimmages. They did that for all competitions just to get the schedule out there, but don’t pay attention to that. We have all agreed to keep it to 1 ½ hours. I will keep you updated if there are any changes. We should have our t-shirts by January 8th. The schedule below will be up on the W-H website over the weekend. The links to both sites are below.

Good Morning,
I just received word that the school has cancelled all games and after hours activities due to snow coming. We will have practice on Thursday as scheduled. On a separate note, Hanover was not able to reschedule the takedown tournament so it has been canceled. Anyone who signed up on line should be receiving an email form the Hanover coach on refund status. We can talk more on Thursday. Sorry, I hate snow too!

TAKEDOWN TOURNAMENT CANCELED DUE TO WEATHER
Good Morning,
Unfortunately we are forced to cancel the Takedown Tournament scheduled for 12/15 at the Hanover High School. The school will be closed to all activities so that the maintenance crews will have the ability to make the school ready for classes on Monday. We will try to reschedule the tournament to next weekend 12/22, but we will not know about gym availability until Monday. If we can’t reschedule for next Sunday, then I will figure out how to refund any entrants fee that you have already paid. If you know that you would be unable to attend next Sunday’s event, please send me an email at [email protected] and I’ll make arrangements to get you a refund.
I apologize for any inconvenience and hope to see you all next weekend.
Sincerely,
Peter Frank

Hi Parents and Wrestlers.
Hope everyone had a great weekend and is looking forward to the upcoming week in wrestling. I spent over 4 hours today with Clay Steadman of Penn state as he ran a clinic, so I hope to incorporate some of his teachings into our practice sessions. Our first W-H practice went well and it was a little slower pace than usual with the formalities at the beginning and it being the first night. The kids seem like a good group and very coachable, so we are excited about that. We mostly covered wrestling on our feet or (neutral position) and practiced some takedowns. The takedown is the most dynamic scoring opportunity in wrestling and you can’t be successful in wrestling without it. I have listed a couple of links below that will help to reinforce and demonstrate some of the techniques we went over. In addition, there are some good videos to watch from last year if you go to the website and go to the youth wrestling archives. Next Sunday, 12/15 is the Hanover takedown tourney/clinic. I sent the link out last week so you can register. It’s $5.00 and close to home so let’s get as many wrestlers there as we can. I’ll ask for a headcount at practice Thursday so try and register on line before then. If the links below don’t open when you double click then copy and paste them into your browser. I hope to have the whole season competition schedule in the next week. See you Tuesday.
Thank you,

Hi All,
Looking forward to seeing you all tomorrow night. I got an email from the Hingham coach because he had a few open slots to a clinic that Hanover and them are hosting Sunday, December 8th. This is definitely a scenario where you shouldn't feel obligated to go. That being said I have heard good things about this clinician. The cost is $30.00 and it is 4 1/2 hours long. I maybe have 5 slots that are available. If you're interested I would need to know by tonight of before I get to work tomorrow morning so I can get back to him on head count. Here is the flyer. Email me back only if you are interested.
Thank you,
Coach Steve

Welcome Parents and Wrestlers,
I just wanted to remind you that we will be starting practices this Thursday 12/5 at 6:00 p.m. in the cafeteria at Whitman-Hanson High school. I usually send out a weekly email after practices to review what we have learned, provide learning links to review what we covered and to provide upcoming information on competitions. Email is the best way to get in contact with us and we will utilize the website to communicate scheduling, cancellations and training.
Normally we don’t participate in competitions until January, but there is a pre-season low pressure clinic/ takedown tournament in Hanover on December 15th. I have pasted the Hanover coaches’ email below that includes the link to register for it so cut and paste it into your browser to get to the site. If your son or daughter is new, not to worry since it’s a takedown only tournament we will have practiced them quite a bit before the 15th. They are limiting it and there are no sign ups the day of so if you want to go, please use the link below and register.
We still have openings in our W-H program for the 5th -8th grades so I won’t order the t-shirts until after the first couple of weeks until I close off registrations. I look forward to seeing you all on the 5th.
Thank you,
W-H Youth Coaches
Good Morning Everyone,
I would like to invite you all to an early pre-season Clinic and Take Down Tournament in Hanover on 12/15. There will be 2 sessions Youth (K-4) and Middle School (5-8) and we are limiting each session to the first 125 kids. The first hour of the session will be a clinic provided by Ex-Southern Oregon Standout Jared Dalgleish. Immediately after the clinic we will hold a round take-down tournament. This will be a very low pressure way to start out the season and get the kids on the mat. Ribbons will be handed out for each group (places 1 – 4) and light snacks will be available for purchase. More information is available at the link below.
Please let me know if you have any questions and please feel free to forward this to anyone on the South Shore that I may have missed. PLEASE NOTE: We are limiting these sessions to the first 125 kids for each session.
