Parents,
I wanted to say thank you for attending the pizza party last week it was a blast !!! Also thank you for a great year of wrestling with awesome attendance.
This was our sophomore year and with the addition of coach Gary and Craig along with coach Kenny and David we grew as a program and look forward to building the program each year.
Note:
The few that plan on attending Pembroke tourney Tuesday please email coach Steve at [email protected] with your child's name, weight, age, and skill level so he can fill out the cards for bracketing.
I also urge you to keep an eye on www.whwrestling.com for updates and the final two episodes of my cable show Mat time with Mark.
Those that would like to continue with club wrestling in the off season the Dungeon in Hanover and CBC in Raynham have classes. They both are intense clubs, although your child will continue to learn a great deal.
Lastly all of the coaches are tossing around the idea of a summer wrestling camp so please check the website periodically for details.
Warm regards.

Parents,
Aside from volunteering my time with our great youth wrestling program, I also very committed to raising money for disabled children which includes my twin 18 sons who have MD. This year we are raising money for the Massachusetts Hospital School adaptive sports program and the Jett Foundation for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy research.
On April 5th, 2014 at the Historic War Memorial Building in Brockton I have put together a show unlike any other. We are welcoming my friend and host Steve Schirripa from Soprano's fame, three of Boston's best comics, and Draw the Line the only endorsed Aerosmith Tribute Band. All for the kids 100% proceeds go to charity.
If you would like a great adult night our please visit our site www.rockNcomedy.com to purchase your tickets.
I have also included a recent Fox news story on my oldest sons who are two of the best wheelchair soccer players in the country. This story is inspirational showing that all you really need is a competitive spirit to play a sport and be part of a team.

We had a blast last year and hope to see some of you there this year to mix and mingle with other parents, coaches and alumni of the program
Lastly the season is winding so I wanted to outline the remainder of the schedule and let you know we added a tournament to the competition schedule after our last practice.

Parents,
I want to congratulate the kids that participated in the Hanover Invitational Tourney. What a great day for our kids!!! We are all so proud at the improvement you have made, win or lose.
I also want to thank the WH coaches for their continued hard work and dedication... We are very fortunate to have such an amazing group.
REMEMBER there is NO practice tonight although we will be joining the older kids tomorrow night. Same time. Same place.
This Friday, we will be having a practice / scrimmage against Hanover so please wear your WH shirts and bring your headgear.
Also, those that competed in Hanover Tourney, please bring your medal and trophies because the WH Express will be in the house to do a story on the whole youth program.
This Sunday is the Gold Tourney in Foxboro, although we won't be bringing a WH group. If you are still interested in attending, you can do so on your own.
Lastly, coach Steve has informed me that Pembroke may be considering a year end tourney during February vacation, which would be a great way to end the season. I will update you as soon as more details come out.

Parents,
Few things..
We just learned that one of our wrestlers is out for the season with mono and step throat. I felt like I should inform you of this.
Those that attended tonight's scrimmage sorry it ended so late and for any confusion. That being said, I hope your child had fun and leaned a little. It can be a bit overwhelming for the kids getting out of their comfort zone, not wrestling there own teammates. It is also normal to have their egos bruised along with some bumps and bruises.
There is practice tomorrow. Coach Gary will be running it while I'm away. Those attending Sunday, we will see you around 7:45 AM in Hanover.
Lastly, Monday is a holiday so I have decided to cancel practice and have an optional practice on Tuesday 1/21 with the 5-8th graders. If you can't attend then we will see you all Friday 1/24 for a home scrimmage.
Thank you,
Coach Mark

Happy New Year to you all!
It looks like Mother Nature does not want to let us back on the mat just yet. Practice will be cancelled for tomorrow 1/3 due to the coming snow storm. Next week we have practices on Monday and Friday as usual and a scrimmage in Hingham on Wednesday 1/8. I need a head count ASAP to see who is planning to be at the Hingham scrimmage on Wednesday.
Hingham does a good job of running these and there will be kids there for us to match up against. Please email me back to let me know if your coming.

Parents,
We just finished up week three and I am pleased with our progress and how quick our first year kids are adapting. They are a great group of kids!!! We will be practicing this week as normal Monday and Friday with the 5th - 8th graders joining us along with Coaches Wright and Baker.
The following week is still up in the air although I’m hoping we will be able to get the practices in.
I mentioned that aside from our normal practice days we have some additional scrimmages and a tourney that I would love to see you attend. All the coaches from the South Coast Wrestling league www.southwrestling.net have been working hard to get the kids together from the local communities. The scrimmages will be very similar to our practice structure with some 1-1-1 matches mixed in. Also keep in mind these other towns are just like us with new kids that know very little. We only will match by skill, age, and weight. The Hanover Tourney we did last year I highly recommend also because it is so well run and lots of fun for the kids. Please see below.
Wednesday Jan 8th @ Hingham High School 6-8:30
Sunday Jan 19th Hanover Invitational Tourney
Thursday January 23rd @ Whitman Hanson against Hanover 6-8:30
Thursday January 30th @ Whitman Hanson against Walpole 6-8:30
Tuesday February 4th @ Whitman Hanson against Braintree 6-8:30
I suggest that you all go to our site on a regular basis www.whwrestling.com and look for some great instructional videos for the kids to watch.
Lastly I know many of you have to bring your other children, which is fine, although I ask that you keep them with you by your side watching the practice to avoid any liability issues and distractions.

Good Morning,
Unfortunately we are forced to cancel the Takedown Tournament scheduled for 12/15 at the Hanover High School. The school will be closed to all activities so that the maintenance crews will have the ability to make the school ready for classes on Monday. We will try to reschedule the tournament to next weekend 12/22, but we will not know about gym availability until Monday. If we can’t reschedule for next Sunday, then I will figure out how to refund any entrants fee that you have already paid. Parents,
We made it through week one and I couldn't be more proud of the awesome group of kids we have this season. We have worked on our wrestling stance along with changing levels, penetrating, and executing a single and double leg. This coming week we will work on our bottom game and explain the rules of a wrestling match, along with some more live wrestling and fun.
On Monday coach Gary will be back to share over 35 years of wrestling experience that spanned the globe while wrestling for the United States Army team. He is a wealth of information and it's an honor to have him work with the kids.
If you don't have wrestling shoes please email me privately. Coach Wright has some hand me downs that may fit your child.
A few have also asked about wrestling shirts which we hope to have by Friday.
Lastly don't forget to visit www.whwrestling.com for the latest news on the program.
Have a great weekend AFS

Parents,
When you have a moment could you just email me back your child's grade. I have most of yours although some I don't and we need for the roster.
Also on a side note practices haven't event began and we have been invited to a takedown tourney in Hanover on Sunday December 15th. Many of you right now are saying it's my child's first year and he doesn't even know what a takedown is. That's true but trust me by the 15th they will be old pros shooting singles and doubles.
Youth wrestling has really taken off nationally and more specifically in Mass and the South Shore, with all the local coaches collaborating and communicating.
It is not required that you attend all the extra scrimmages and tourneys outside our normal Monday and Fridays but I suggest your experience it at least once. My son Max is in second grade going into his second season and last year he and about ten other first years wrestlers made the extra trips. They had a blast. One thing you will see is that the first thing we will teach is sportsmanship so while at these outside events safety along with matching skills levels, size, and age are taken into consideration.
Space is limited so if interested check out if not no worries trust me there will be many more over the two months.

If you have any question please ask away and Happy Thanksgiving to all.
