Thursday, January 17th, 2013

Just a reminder practice this week has been moved to Saturday in the gymnasium from 12-1. Those participating in the tourney Sunday I would ask that you stay for an additional 30-45 minutes so we can go over what to expect.

NOTE: if you haven't yet please make sure your child has wrestling shoes because we recently discarded some of the old mats and are now using newer ones. This is not only to preserve these mats but also to keep them free of dirt and germs.

Thank you for all coming Saturday it was a good practice and the kids still continue to get better. It can be challenging when the kids only have one practice a week when some youth programs are running four days a week. For those that attended they were excited to get there shirts and those that didn't they will get them at the next practice.

REMEMBER there is no practice this Friday and we will resume the following Friday, February 1st  going straight through March 8th Fridays in the cafeteria.

NOW I WANT EVERYONE TO GIVE A BIG ROUND OF APPLAUSE TO THE BRAVE NINE BOYS THAT WERE AT THE HANOVER YOUTH WRESTLING TOURNAMENT.

Disclaimer: I think I got all the names right :-) this is my goal because I hope to continue this program and see these kids straight through high school if they want to continue.

Connor, Justin, Caden, Max, Brice, Cole,Ben, Joseph, Jason....Our kids have only had SIX practices and the other kids kids were a bit more advanced than advertised. BUT our kids wrestled with courage and great sportsmanship... I am soPROUD!!!!!!! Bravo!!!

Remember parents tell your sons that even though they didn't make tourney we all are a team hope they will be able to join us at other tournaments or scrimmages.

We just got invited from Hanover to come over this Thursday from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm to have a practice scrimmage with Duxbury, Pembroke, and Silver Lake. I think this might be a great learning experience for our kids, and an opportunity for those that wrestled yesterday to meet some of there opponents.

This is optional so if interested please let me know ASAP so I can give them a head count.

Here are a few pictures of the boys that participated in the Hanover Tournament this past weekend.

I was given wrong info by a coach and tonight is at the Hobomock School across from Pembroke High School at 6:00 pm.

Friday, January 25th, 2013

Big shout out to Bob and gang for the practice scrimmage last night in Pembroke. I personally learned a ton as did my other coaches as we are still refreshing after so many years away. It was a blast, my kids had so much fun and made some friends while doing so. We look forward to any other opportunities that come
up. See you all in Duxbury on Sunday!

Tuesday, January 29th, 2013

Those that attended the Duxbury tournament, it had some highs but much more lows in my opinion. The good thing is that our kids got some more experience, but it is obvious we need much more practice.

We are back this Friday for our normal practice and we go straight through March 8th, same place, same time....

This Thursday
we have been invited back for a scrimmage at Pembroke High (not middle school) which some did last week. I was impressed with this because it was only a few schools and it was more instructional, which we need. Please email me if interested.

Lastly us coaches are looking into renting space in either Whitman or Hanson and opening up a private wrestling club for those that would like to continue wrestling and working on their skills during the off season. Stay tuned for details.

Saturday, February 2nd, 2013

Back at our usually home, we had a great practice last night! The kids are showing much growth and better discipline. I want to give a special thanks to Coach Dan and Coach Craig who will be helping out for the remainder of our season. They were a GREAT asset!!!

Over the last few weeks some of us have traveled to a few tournaments and scrimmages that have had some highs and lows. The great thing is we all had fun, and as a coach I was able to learn a lot myself that will only help our program.

Last night’s practice was a bit more structured and intense as you may have noticed. We will continue to learn more offense and defense with a great deal of live wrestling as we wrap up the season. We now have five practices, finishing up on March 8th with a pizza party.

PS: There may be another scrimmage in Pembroke this Thursday. If so as more details come in I will notify you.

Tuesday, February 5th, 2013

I just got word that there is one more mini tourney at Pembroke this Thursday 6:00 pm at the high school. Five of our kids attended last week and I think they came out of it very positive. The tourney is NOT like the big ones and they do a great job matching the kids up. My son Max had three matches against Pembroke kids and had so much fun.

I need to get estimated number so try to get back to me ASAP.

Thursday, February 7th, 2013

Important location change for tonight. Still in Pembroke, but not at the high school. We will be right across the street!

The Pembroke coaches found out last night that we can not use the high school gymnasium. They have secured the Hobomock Gym which is where they practice.  It’s about half the size and has no bleachers. They will set up tables and chairs around the mats.  They will have concessions. It will be a little tight but they think it is worth giving it a shot. I just wanted everybody to know.

The Hobomock School is right across the street from the High School. Drive down learning lane and it’s on your right. Parking is on the right before the school and in back. Please use the side entrance near the parking.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Few things...

1. We do have practice this Friday normal time.
2. There is ONE LAST tourney at Pembroke High Tuesday the 19th which will conclude them until next year. It will be similar to Hanover so if you are interested in attending as always message me so I can get an idea of the head count. I will do my best to bracket the kids with equal talent, although those that have been attending know that it doesn't always work out that way.

Pembroke High School Gymnasium on Tuesday, February 19th
Registration is from 7:30 to 8:30 should start by 9am
K-5 4 man round robin. All get certificates
6th-8th 8 man brackets. Top 3 medal
$8 dollars for K-5

3. There will NOT be practice on February 22, 2013 allowing you all to enjoy vacation.

4. The last two practices will be held March 1 and 8 from 6:00 - 7:30 to make up the time. On the 8th I would plan on being there until 8:00 PM because we will be having a pizza party to end the season.

Saturday, February 16th, 2013

For those that attended we had a fun practice last night given the distractions with the basketball game also going on. The coaches and I are keeping it really simple at the stage with single and double legs and the half Nelson. This mixed in with lots of live wresting. As we wind down with only two practices left March 1-8 we can only hope that they have caught the wrestling bug and come back this summer for a possible camp (TBA) and next Fall season.

For those that had planned on attending Tuesday’s final tourney in Pembroke please note that it has been moved to Thursday at the high school. Myself or Coach Ken or David won't be attending given the sudden move, BUT coach Steve Wright and Joe Baker from the WH youth 5-8 will be there. Please arrive around 7:30 to register. Good luck!!!

Lastly if you have nothing to do today WH is hosting the high school south sectionals all day into the early evening. This is a great event in your home town if you can make it!

Friday, March 1st, 2013

While meeting with the coaches last night I was informed that the school has put away the wrestling mats for the year. This was an error on their part since we had clearance until March 8th although there is nothing I can do.

That being said unfortunately our season is over, so I would like to see you all next Friday March 8th at 6:00 PM at the Venus 3 in Hanson for an extra special pizza party. We will also be giving the kids the synch bags as promised.

This year was our first year as you know so there was lots to be learned which we will take into next season.

On a side note we all have been working diligently and are pretty close to securing a location nearby to run our soon to be named wrestling club. The club will be open for example three days a week and will be supervised by two adults. There will be a reasonable membership fee and like any gym membership you can come as you please. There will be instruction as well as an occasional special guest.

We are looking to open up April 1st if we can get through all the red tape. I will also speak with the coaches to see if we can offer a small discount for those that would like to join from my group for the inconvenience of these last few practices being missed.

Thank you and sorry or any inconvenience!!! See you all next week.

Friday, March 8th, 2013

Here we go again ugh!!!! Forecast says it’s going to snow into early evening, roads are a mess, plan is at (to use a wrestling term) a stalemate mode!

So I am sorry we decided to cancel tonight for safety.

We have also decided not to reschedule the party :-( BUT I will be mailing each and every one your bag next week.

Next season I plan on adding an extra day to the program that will mirror the high school season from after Thanksgiving until February vacation.  I also will take $15.00 off the price at sign up for the troubles this year.

With regards to the club which is not affiliated with WH we are still in talks, and I will notify you when I learn more.

It was a pleasure to work with you all and if you see me on the soccer fields this year are sure to say hello.
